┌────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ SmartGL v1.04 Oliver R.Bell (013/000) │
└────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
AFTER READING THIS DOCUMENTATION PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU READ THE
AMENDMENTS TO SMARTGL AT THE END OF THIS FILE.
┌──────────────────┐
│ What is SmartGL? │
└──────────────────┘
Have you ever wanted to add just a little bit of information to the .GL
reports leaving your board? YES! Well here's the answer. SmartGL, if run
after each call to MDist will transform any details leaving your board.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ So, what information does it really add? │
└──────────────────────────────────────────┘
A number of things, the first bit is to add details of where you
actually collect the echo from, this could be endlessly useful when
trying to work out the best routing for an echo you wish to collect.
Then it adds details of the last echomail day that you received on your
system, so therefore a single line entry in an outgoing .GL report that
started off looking something like
√ E00/015,0001 - PSTSCRPT PGMRS
Gets two small helpful bit's of information added to it and ends up
looking something like
√ E00/015,0001 - PSTSCRPT PGMRS 032/001 1410
┌───────────────────────────────────┐
│ Surely it must do more than this? │
└───────────────────────────────────┘
Yes it does the next thing that happens is that the .GL report becomes
categorized under 5 distinct headings:-
Echos coming to here from you
Other conferences available
Echos sponsored here
Echos that I have not seen for 16 days or more
Requested echos that have not yet arrived
┌─────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ Sounds good! How do I install & run it? │
└─────────────────────────────────────────┘
Easy really, you have to start off by typing 'SmartGL setup' from the
DOS command line, you will then be asked four simple questions.
1) Which drive do you use as your mail drive?
An easy one! Quite simply asking which drive the program has too
look on to find your \MAILOUT and \MAILIN directories. Please note
here SmartGL is asking only for the drive letter so if you use
drive C for your \MAILIN and \MAILOUT then you would answer 'C' NOT
'C:'.
2) Name of the file that contains your ROUTING INSTRUCTIONS section of
your ROUTING.BBS? The answer to this one will normally be
ROUTING.BBS, although you may use a different file. SmartGL
requires only the file name it will then look in your GTPATH for
the file.
Also please note that a specific definition is needed in your
ROUTING.BBS, if your using ranges to route your echos the SmartGL
will just not work. You must have a line for each echo in your
ROUTING INSTRUCTIONS section e.g. If you were collecting the Gt
Support Echo from my board you'd have a line that looked like
ACCEPT E00/001 -> 013/000
NOT
ACCEPT E00/000-999 -> 013/000
3) The third question you will be asked is how old you wish an echo to
become before it starts to appear in the 'Echos I have not seen for
xx days or more' section of the final .GL Report.
4) The final question is the version of GT Power that you're using,
SmartGL is compatible with both version 15.xx and version 16.xx.
answer either '15' of '16' to this question.
After you have run this section all you will need to do will be to run
SmartGL after each call to MDISTxxx.COM.
┌───────────────────────────────────┐
│ If I have problems what can I do? │
└───────────────────────────────────┘
The best solution is to pick you the 'UK Utilities Support Echo'
E03/607, it's available in the UK via the niteline and via Perry
Alexander or any of his connects in the US. Hopefully it will be
available in other countries soon as well.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
What's new in this release then?
Version 1.01 (25-11-90) -
1) Corrected a buy when running in GT15 mode, the 'Echos coming to you
in a G-Bag' bit at the bottom of a .GL report is now shown as it should
be.
2) SmartGL will no longer go through the job of loading in all the
echomail dates *UNTIL* it actually finds a .GL report to process, this
should hopefully save a great deal of time.
3) Finally thanks to all those people who have begun to register the
program, just to confirm that the CRC that you currently have will
continue to work with this version, upgrades in the future will continue
to be FREE!
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Version 1.02 (26-12-90) -
1) Quite simply corrected a bug reported to me by Jim Knight. SmartGL
was missing off the first echo carried by any one system.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Version 1.03 (19-1-91) -
1) Fixed a bug that occured if you replied to a .GL report that was
produced by an 047 netmail system and had not been enhanced by SmartGL.
In the past the program would lock.
2) Prevented SmartGL from writing sections into the Enhanced report with
'None!' under the heading, this filled out the page and made the report
look scruffy. Now if there are not entries under a certain heading that
heading will be missed out altogether.
3) Added a command line parameter 'echoname', this will tell SmartGL to
take it's description for a particular echo from an ECHOLIST.BBS in
GTPATH as apposed to from ROUTING.BBS. This provides a little more
conformity accross the network.
4) Changed one or two of the headings, apparantly some phrases that are
perfectly OK in the UK mean something totally different in the US.
5) Added a days old column after the echo day number this prevents the
need for quick mental calculations.
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Version 1.04 (2-2-91) -
1) Turned the bit that put the echo name from ECHOLIST.BBS around a bit,
the program will now try to do this by default, the commandline
parameter 'NOECHONAME' is needed to prevent this from happening.
2) A request from Bryan Pike to allow the report to look something like
the way it used to do, listing all the headings regardless of weather
there are echos under it or not, the program does not do this by default
you will need to add the commandline parameter 'SHOWNONE' to force these
sections.
3) A MAJOR CHANGE FOR REGISTERED USERS!, The CRC system is totally
changed in this release of SmartGL, the CRC now goes into the program,
instead of the clumsy sombination of the OB Password and the commandline
magic number. To this aim the CRC itself has changed. All current
registered users of SmartGL are requested to send me their OBPassword
and old CRC and I'll will issue them with a CRC for 1.04.
I hope these changes make using SmartGL just that little simpler for
everyone.
Two new commandline parameters go with these changes.
INSTCRC - This will give you the option to install your CRC into the
SmartGL program, this option must be used in the same
directory as SMARTGL.EXE. You must not run any of the .EXE
compression programs such as LZEXE or DIET on the program
before installing your CRC.
SHOWCRC - This will simply show you the CRC that is installed in the
SMARTGL.EXE file, for that hard to avoid occasion when you
have lost the piece of paper with the CRC on it.
4) Perry Alexander requested that I up the limitations of the number of
echos that SmartGL can handle to a limit above the limits of the netmail
suite, SmartGL will now quite hapilly handle 500 echos.
